Ridgefield, WA, November 5, 2008 – The City of Ridgefield is pleased to announce that City Manager Justin Clary was honored yesterday as a 2008 recipient of the "Accomplished & Under 40" award hosted by the Vancouver Business Journal and Schwabe Williamson & Wyatt, Attorneys at Law.
Justin joined the City in June 2004 as the Public Works Director, was later appointed as Interim City Manager in December 2005 and formally appointed as the position of City Manager in April 2007. During Justin's tenure, Ridgefield has nearly doubled in population and more than tripled in assessed property valuation.
Under the council-manager form, the city manager serves the City Council as chief executive officer of the City and has responsibility for preparing and administering the City's budget, directing day-to-day operations, hiring and firing personnel, and serving as the council's chief policy advisor. The city manager coordinates the work of department heads and other employees, who ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of services. By building public/private partnerships, the city manager targets all of the community's resources to solve current issues.
Justin was instrumental in correcting the issues of the past and restoring public trust while propelling the City forward. He has worked very hard to build partnerships with other agencies and the private sector to maintain and enhance the quality of life in Ridgefield. In addition, Justin has instituted public information programs, including the highly successful series of ice cream socials held in residential subdivisions each summer that provide citizens an opportunity to meet with Council and staff to discuss issues affecting the community.
Mr. Clary is active in the community supporting many community-based organizations, including the Refuge Overlook Park Committee, the Friends of the Ridgefield Refuge, and various community enhancement projects. In addition, Justin recently served as a mentor for a group of Ridgefield High School calculus students through the Educational School District 112's Mentoring Advanced Programs for Students program. Justin currently serves on the Board of the Columbia River Economic Development Council and has recently been appointed to the Steps Sustainability Committee, which is tasked with monitoring and ensuring the viability of the Clark County Community Choices program.
Mayor Ron Onslow said "As Mayor speaking for the City Council and our growing community, I would like to recognize and congratulate Justin on his selection 2008 Class of the Accomplished and Under 40 award. As our City Manager, Mr. Clary keeps the Council informed of pending issues and, with his eyes consistently on the horizon, he has kept the fastest growing community in Clark County on track. Always available, Justin and his family are a credit to our fine community."
