Family Quilting Program with the Contemporary QuiltArt Association 1pm-3pm
Come see our newly installed exhibit, Evolution of the Art Quilt, and participate in an afternoon quilting activity designed and presented by the artists featured in the exhibit. This fun activity with fused fabric quilting allows youngsters to experience the act of creating a quilt, with special materials and direction provided by the quilters themselves. FREE with paid admission.

These quilts will expand your perception of what a quilt is; from functional craft to compelling, expressive art. These quilts represent an exciting emerging medium of expression and a viable contemporary art form. Organized by the Contemporary QuiltArt Association and presented by the Washington State History Museum.

Washington's Historic Quilts A small exhibition with quilts from Washington’s past from the collection of the Washington State Historical Society. This exhibit highlights a variety of construction and quilting techniques, as well as designs and fabrics from various time periods. Among the quilts are a pioneer quilt, a wedding quilt, a crazy quilt, and a quilt made to honor the women’s Olympic marathon time trials held in Olympia, WA in the 1980s. Organized by the Washington State History Museum.

More Quilts at the Tacoma Art Museum! From September 22 through December 9, 2007, the Tacoma Art Museum presents Gee's Bend: The Architecture of the Quilt. Tacoma Art Museum is the only West-Coast venue for Gee's Bend: The Architecture of the Quilt, which features approximately sixty works from the critically acclaimed African-American quilters from Gee’s Bend, Alabama. Immediately following The Architecture of the Quilt, Tacoma Art Museum brings local voices to the galleries with Threads that Bind: Works by Pacific Northwest African American Quilters, on view December 18, 2007 through February 17, 2008. Located at 1701 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98402, the Tacoma Art Museum is just a short walk from the Washington State History Museum

Entry fee is $3.00. 2007 Opportunity Quilt " Patches and Posies" tickets $1.00. Drawing is September 30, 2007. Proceeds help local charities and hospice and CPS quilt endeavors. Quilter's Symposium Washington State History Museum
On the 19th, the CQA hosts an evening reception for symposium guests with dinner and a chance to view the exhibition, "Evolution of the Art Quilt." On the 20th, take part in a full-day symposium dedicated to the art quilt, including speakers Robert Shaw, author of The Art Quilt and Quilts: A Living Tradition, and Michael Monroe, director of the Bellevue Arts Museum.
