La Center Library

Click here for more pictures,My name is Justin Keeler. I was born in Michigan in 1974 and was re-located to Casper, Wyoming at the age of 5. I graduated from Natrona County High School in Casper in 1993, from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor's Degree in Music in 1999 and from Kent State University in Ohio with my Master's in Library Science in December of 2001.

Prior to becoming Assistant Branch Manager at the Vancouver Mall Community Library, I was employed as a Circulation Clerk at the William Coe Library at the University of Wyoming, and as a paige or shelver in the Children's Department at the central branch of the Denver Public Library. After receiving my MLS degree, I returned to Casper, Wyoming where I was employed as an adult services librarian at the Natrona County Public Library. I was employed by NCPL for nine months, at which point I moved to Michigan so my spouse could pursue an advanced degree. While in Michigan, I was employed as a Youth Services Librarian for four years at the Ypsilanti District Library.

My family and I had a long standing desire to return west after our time in Michigan had come to an end and I was lucky enough to quickly be offered employment with the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District as the Assistant Manager of the Vancouver Mall Branch. It was a fantastic decision for me and my family. There is not a day that has gone by over the last two years that we have not rejoiced in our decision to move to Washington State and that the opportunity presented itself in such a positive fashion. Currently my family and I live in Vancouver, within walking distance of the mall.

I take the many roles that I play as a librarian in any community very seriously and my family has, in the past, based our decisions on where we choose to live on my desire to be an active participant in any community I serve. To be an effective public librarian, I believe that you need to be as present and involved in your community as possible. As to where we will be living in the near future, only time will tell but I would not be surprised to find my family packing up our apartment in Vancouver in the next few months.

As the La Center Community Librarian, I would like to continue the great work that is already being done and at the same time increase the library's presence in the community. There are so many roles that a public library can play, from community gathering place and information clearing house to helping to promote developing and emerging literacy skills in our young people. I am enthusiastically looking forward to becoming a part of La Center and its' library. Please stop by the library when you have a moment, introduce yourself and chat with me about what you would like to see in the future for the library and La Center.
