56th Annual Installation Dinner: A Night of Fun
Saturday, January 29th, the Woodland Chamber officially introduced the 2011 Board of Trustees and thanked the 2010 Board for their service. The Business of the Year, Citizen of the Year, and Employee of the Year Awards were also announced. The evening was entertaining, thanks to MC Bill Behrens, and spectacular, thanks to the local businesses that sponsored tables.
The 2011 Board of Trustees, elected last October, is as follows: President, Joel Lengyel; 1st Vice President, Judy Bartlett; 2nd Vice President, Julie Nelson; Secretary, Mary Urban; Treasurer, Darlene Johnson; Past President, Bill Raybell; Trustee, Carol Rounds; Trustee, Vivian Mosby; Trustee, Jim Teasley; Trustee, Jenny Wile; Trustee, Nelson Holmberg; Trustee, Nora Bain. Retiring Board Members are Debbie Kennell; Barbara Harsh; Mike Golik. The Board manages the affairs of the Chamber of Commerce and the Visitors Information Center and provides invaluable leadership. The 2010 Board accomplished some daunting achievements: updating the Bylaws, defining future direction for the Chamber and recruiting a new director to name just a few. These retiring Trustees were instrumental and their leadership was crucial to these accomplishments.
Table sponsors for the evening were All About You Hair Design with All Tips & Toes; Cascade Title; Classic Hair Design with Dana's Classic Floral; Columbia Bank; Fibre Federal Credit Union; Heritage Bank; Holland America Bulb Farm; Lelooska Foundation; Le Tip; Lewis River Golf Course; Lewis River Review; New Phoenix & Last Frontier Casinos; Oak Tree Restaurant; Red Lion Hotel; State Farm Insurance; US Bank; USNR. These sponsors provided beautiful and often tasty centerpieces and complimentary gifts for guests. The centerpieces were then raffled off after the dinner, and the proceeds help to offset costs for the event.
For many, the highlight of the evening was the revelation of the recipients for the annual awards. The Business of the Year Award was given to the Oak Tree Restaurant, the Citizen of the Year was James Graham and the Employee of the Year was Amanda Sandeen.
Also recognized were the employees and volunteers that run the Visitors Information Center: Virginia Wilkerson, celebrating 13 years of service, Shirley Brenner and Judith Ibbs. Their services to the community, local business, tourists and travelers are priceless. If you need to know something about Woodland, Cowlitz County or SW Washington, there is no better source of information, and these people are incredibly knowledgeable.
The evening was delightful and the sense of community pride was palpable. If you missed this one, plan now to attend next year's Installation Dinner, you won't be sorry.
