Located at milepost 45 on State Route 504, Coldwater Lake Recreation Area offers a unique opportunity to explore the lake's origins and current flora and fauna. Enjoy a leisurely stroll on a quarter mile interpretive boardwalk that describes how the events of the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens formed this lake. A three-quarter mile walk along the Coldwater Lake Trail (#211) will bring you to the junction with the Elk Bench trail (#211D) where you can ascend directly to Coldwater Ridge Visitor Center (one-half mile, 600 feet elevation gain). Restrooms and picnic tables are available. (Text courtesy of GPNF) Pictures taken September 21, 2003.
